Winner: Golden Trailer Award. Concepted, secured buy-in, and managed all agency production of this Dolby Vision & Atmos demo trailer while synthesizing feedback from all internal stakeholders. Designed to be modular, Universe continues to be mined for video and design assets, having established a visual identity system that would come to define the core of Dolby Cinema’s marketing assets for over 3.5 years until current. As my proudest work at Dolby, I held unique ownership of this project from developing the initial concept and personally writing the copy, to guiding it through every stage of life and deliverables. Managing from Dolby's perspective, I partnered with agency Midnight Sherpa to develop VFX design execution, nail the perfect edit, direct composer to perfect scoring, oversee all VO casting decisions, personally directed VO talent, finessed final sound design, refined the final Atmos mix internally, and oversaw Dolby's in-house mastering of this 2D & stereoscopic 3D piece in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Subsequently, I oversaw the transcreation of Universe into over 15 foreign languages, spawning over 215 derivative cutdowns while also leveraging elements to generate a consistent brand presence across Dolby's OOH, digital and social spaces. Universe continues to play at Dolby Cinemas worldwide and is featured prominently as the intro inside Dolby’s flagship Cinema at 1275 at their San Francisco headquarters.
Bradley Cooper Case Study.
At the tail end of his national roadshow promoting A Star Is Born, Bradley Cooper stopped by Dolby’s San Francisco Headquarters where we had an opportunity to give him some technology demos and capture his perspectives. Produced & directed shoot, developed questions, co-interviewed & edited case study.
Destination: Dolby Cinema Japan Launch.
Concepted, wrote, and secured buy-in of both Dolby and Japan exhibitor partners TJOY; then jumped on a plane to Japan to personally direct the shoot, editing locally, while in collaboration with 3 agencies (Midnight Sherpa, Mt Melvil & Lost Films) and Dolby's internal teams to deliver all VFX post-production, along with print & digital assets in under <3 week delivery schedule. Achieved 50K YouTube views in <30 days in a locally targeted population of 228K. Designed to be globally-translatable, templated, scalable, hyper-local-but-repeatable across multiple consumer touch-points spanning digital, social, out-of-home, POS, broadcast, and even AR spaces; the concept was also packaged and delivered as a launch toolkit for Dolby’s global exhibitor partners.
Dolby: Cinema Showcase
As part of an ongoing testimonial and case study campaign to energize Dolby's brand credibility: I researched, prepared all interview questions, directed and usually interviewed Dolby's filmmaker partners personally; subsequently building an archive of testimonials to support everything from Dolby's title releases to building out spectacular trade show sizzles.
Finalist: Golden Trailer Award. Teaming up again with agency Midnight Sherpa, I wrote and managed agency production of this high-energy, motion-graphic, text-driven announce teaser designed to compel consumers to experience Dolby Cinema. Mastered for social media, POS, theatrical and broadcast consumer touch-points; Movies Matter became a core asset in our Dolby Cinema Launch toolkit and has been fully localized with all new text renders into multiple languages, reiterated in dozens of cut-downs and custom co-branded deliverables.
Alfonso Cuarón Case Study
During the Netflix launch and limited theatrical release of his Academy Award Winner Roma, I had an opportunity to personally interview Alfonso Cuarón. Digging in deeper than a simple title-based testimonial, spoke with us for over an hour while we played some demos and gave him a tour of the Dolby Cinema prototype and working color lab at The Vine Theatre in Hollywood. Going beyond just the title or Dolby technologies, Alfonso spoke with us about his past films and touched upon some of his background and philosiphies as a true auteur. Super down to earth, he had to nearly be pulled away from hanging around and talking more film with us! Researched, written and directed by Matt Zogaric; editorial by Jeremy Stuart.
Dolby Cinema Audiovisual Pathways.
As a larger part of the Dolby Cinema UX design, this is just one example of an example of the Audiovisual Pathway experience walls exclusively created to excite consumers as they cross the threshold into worldwide Dolby Cinema locations. Executed in partnership with each film studio and a roster of creative agencies, each design is a unique creation mastered specifically for that space.
Dolby Cinema x Mission Impossible: Fallout Trailer
In conjunction with each respective studio and AMC theatres, I wrote, produced and guided shot selection for each of these custom title-based Dolby Vision and Atmos experiential teasers which showcased exclusively inside Dolby Cinema in the much-coveted last :45 before the feature presentation began.
Kubo and the Two Strings: Dolby Cinema-mastered Case Study at Laika Studios.
In advance of Focus Films' release of Kubo and the Two Strings at Dolby Cinema, we had an opportunity to capture a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible magic behind Laika's signature stop motion animation films. Sourcing local Portland-based crew and travelling to personally direct and produce on-site at Laika in Hillsboro, OR; I had the opportunity to interview Laika's CEO and director Travis Knight, Producer Arianne Sutner, and animation supervisor Brad Schiff on the making of the film, capturing how Dolby's technology helped advance their craft to the next level. Returning to San Francisco, I managed remotely based editorial and motion graphics designers, put on my own finishing touches and approvals, then managed post-supervision of the final Dolby Atmos mix and Dolby Vision color grade at Dolby's Burbank mixing stage and at The Vine color stage respectively. As their first Vision/Atmos documentary work, it continued to be used as an early Dolby Cinema showcase example for over 2 years at Dolby's San Francisco headquarters.
